Are you looking to bring more Hygge into your life? Create a more "Hyggeligt" atmosphere with your essential oils! What is Hygge? Hygge (/ˈhjuːɡə/ HEW-gə or /ˈhuːɡə/ HOO-gə) is a Norwegian and Danish word for a mood of coziness and comfortable conviviality with feelings of wellness and contentment. Since the late 20th century it has been described as a defining characteristic of Danish culture; while the word is just as widely used in Norwegian, it doesn't enjoy any particular cultural status similar to the recent Danish phenomenon. Coziness, warmth, and an atmosphere fit for connecting with your family and friends, is totally achievable by utilizing essential oils in your home. There are a few ways to do this, but the main method it by diffusing. With so many essential oils to choose from, it it really up to you, and what you feel brings about that cozy and warm atmosphere in your home. However, I will share some of my favorite Hygge oils to diffuse and why they are so cozy!
Lavender oil is the classic, go-to, cozy oil! Since it has been used so long for it's calming properties, most people are familiar with it's soothing aroma. When you are diffusing Lavender in your home, your guests will feel welcome and supported by the familiarity that Lavender brings!
Cardamom & Cinnamon Bark
Combining Cardamom and Cinnamon Bark in your diffuser creates a sort of Chai tea-esque aroma, that is sure you make your guests feel right at home! This combo is great to diffuse any time you want to warm up the vibe of your living space.
Lemon & Ginger
I love this combination of oils, and I will tell you why... I'm obsessed with Lemon Ginger tea! This diffuser blend is reminiscent of a warm Lemon Ginger tea, and definitely warms up your space! Be careful with this one though... you may just find yourself brewing a pot of tea after a few minutes of diffusing!
If you want a quick, and simple way to bring a fresh, yet welcoming aroma into your living space, Wild Orange is the oil for you. It's cheery vibe, and zesty nature are sure to liven up the atmosphere, while also bringing that level of familiarity we talked about with Lavender.
Even thought it's aroma is cool in nature, Eucalyptus essential oil is another one of those familiar smells that can bring about coziness. Try combining this oil with Lavender for a "spa" like aroma, and extra relaxation benefits.
Woody oils like Cedarwood, naturally bring Hygge into your home as they remind us of fresh firewood, and the winter season. Diffuse Cedarwood in your living room while guests are visiting to make your space feel even more cuddly.
If you aren't still too sure what Hygge is all about, I highly recommend checking out this book by Meik Wiking called The Little Book of Hygge: Danish Secrets to Happy Living. It is such a great read! I really enjoyed it, and I am sure you will too.
So, I'm curious, which oils are you most excited to use to bring more Hygge into your home? Let me know!
