Diluting your Essential Oils

Since we are talking about diluting your essential oils, let's talk FCO. Fractionated Coconut Oil is my FAVE! What is super duper awesome about FCO, is that it remains in it's liquid state, which makes it an optimal carrier oil to spread over larger areas of the body.

Primary Benefits

  • Softens and soothes dry skin
  • Natural emollient to increase essential oil distribution
  • Odorless and colorless for easy blending with any essential oil

Fractionated Coconut oil is also odorless. There are huge benefits to this, as it doesn't take away from the aroma of the oil you are trying to apply topically. Think about the odor of olive oil, trying to mix with something floral... not so awesome, huh? That's why we love using fractionated coconut.

Unlike whole coconut oil, Fractionated Coconut Oil can withstand light and high heat without going rancid. It is also lighter, non-greasy, and has a greater cleansing effect on the skin.

It is also wonderful for skin that may be very sensitive. My son has very sensitive skin, and we always make a point to DILUTE. The skin is the largest organ of our bodies, and we need to take very good care of that. Here is a handy-dandy dilution chart for your reference. For use with Fractionated cocnut oil, refer to the topical section of the chart!

We love adding fractionated coconut to our home made and personalized roller blends for easy topical application!

This is a great question. My gut reaction to this one every time is if you need to ask, just dilute anyway. There is no need to worry about it if you just automatically do it! Fractionated Coconut Oil (or FCO) makes for a great carrier oil to dilute with. doTERRA actually has their own specific FCO made to dilute their oils. Many of these oils can be applied neat, but I don't recommend it if you are concerned or if you have sensitive skin.

As for ratio, that is another one that is generally up to the user. However, when applying oils to infants and small children, dilute! Use 1-3 drops of essential oil to 1 TBS of fractionated coconut oil for infants and 1-3 drops EO to 1 TSP of FCO for children ages 2-5.
