Matcha for Wellness

Did you know that in Japanese "cha" means green tea, and "ma" means powder, thus matcha translates literally as "powdered green tea". Sometimes it's the simple things in Life. Preparation and consumption of matcha entered mainstream culture through the Zen Buddhists, who were very aware of its meditational benefits, which brought them a greater sense of clarity and well-being and I'm so excited to share my favorite Matcha with you!

I'm super obsessed with Four Sigmatic's Mushroom Matcha! And no... it doesn't taste like mushrooms! What's unique about Four Sigmatic Mushroom Matcha?

  • It has 1 gram of dual extracted Lion's Mane per serving

  • It's organic, ceremonial grade matcha

  • There's 250mg of organic ginger per serving

  • You can make it hot, cold or even mix it in your ice cream!

In addition to the brain health, memory, and creative benefits associated with both matcha and Lion's Mane, they've included the powerful adaptogen astragalus to protect your body from stress, and a hint of ginger to improve digestion and flavor.

Matcha tea's vibrant green color comes from chlorophyll, nature's best detoxifier that helps to cleanse our bodies at molecular levels by increasing our blood's ability to deliver oxygen and other nutrients to our cells. I'll definitely drink to that!

If you're looking to curb your daily coffee intake, matcha is a superb choice for the morning or afternoon. While matcha contains caffeine, it also contains L-theanine, a relaxing amino acid, resulting in a feeling of balanced energy for your whole body. There aren't many drinks out there that can make you feel energetic, calm, and focused all at the same time but Mushroom Matcha is pretty much, everyday magic.

I love, love, LOVE Bergamot! One of the reasons why is because I love tea. How do these two things correlate? Bergamot is one of the main ingredients in Earl Grey Tea, and gives it that beautifully fresh aroma! You can actually use Bergamot to make regular tea into Earl Grey tea by simply adding a few drops to your teacup!

Bergamot is  incredibly helpful in supporting our levels of self-acceptance and loving ourselves. When you are wanting to uplift your mood, and put yourself in a level of positive vibrations, Bergamot is a great option to try! Since Bergamot is a citrus oil, it also is a great addition into a home made cleaning recipe (See mine here)!

Bergamot is a unique citrus oil, in that it relaxes rather than energizes. This is a great oil to use before bedtime, whether it's diffused, taken internally, or applied topically, it is sure to give you a sense of calm and harmony. Be sure to dilute with doTERRA Fractionated Coconut Oil if using topically.

Here are some other benefits that Bergamot offers:

  • Increases positive feelings and reduces negative feelings
  • Relieves stress
  • Rejuvenates skin
  • Calms the senses
  • Cleanses skin blemishes
  • Promotes self-confidence

Bergamot is also a wonderful oil to use on it's own, or add to a few others for a nice epsom salt bath! I'm just going to come right out and say it, I am a huge fan of relaxing in the tub. One of my absolute favorite things to do with my essential oils is make a relaxing bath salt to add to my water. Not only is the aroma incredible, but it feels so nice to just surround my body with all kinds of awesomeness!

Relaxing Bath Epsom Salt Recipe

I like to use mason jars to store my salt, and put them in the linen closet inside our master bathroom. You can store them however you wish, but this is how I do it!
  • Fill your mason jar with plain ol' epsom salt
  • Add 15 drops of Grounding Blend Essential Oil
  • Add 10 drops of Wild Orange Essential Oil
  • Add 10 drops of Bergamot Essential Oil
  • Add 10 drops of Ylang Ylang Essential Oil

After you have added your oils, close the mason jar and shake it up! I like to do a little dance while I shake it around in the kitchen, but it's totally not mandatory! Now you can either use your bath salt right away or let it sit in the cupboard and age for a month or two. Either way, you are going to have some seriously amazing baths in your future!

Roman Chamomile

In ancient Rome, Roman Chamomile was used to help soldiers take courage during times of war. Since then, Roman Chamomile essential oil has become popular for its sweet, soothing nature. With a unique, floral scent and chemical components known for their soothing abilities, doTERRA Roman Chamomile essential oil is a must-have for any essential oil collection.

I'm a big fan of tea, as most of you know, so I'm sure you're not suprised when I say I love chamomile tea! And I'm sure you're also not surprised when I say I LOVE Roman Chamomile essential oil! Nope. No surprises there! Haha! And YOU will love the delicate and decadent aroma of this beautiful oil!

Diffusing Roman Chamomile essential oil not only soothes the mind, but it can help soothe anger and irritability on those days when you are feeling agitated or find yourself in the middle of a contentious situation. When you feel angry or irritable, diffuse Roman Chamomile essential oil in your diffuser of choice, and allow the calming, floral tones to wash over you. If you don’t have time to diffuse the oil while you wait to calm down, you can also place one to two drops of the oil in your hands, rub them together, and inhale slowly for 30 seconds. This will allow you to harness the calming power of Roman Chamomile essential oil while you deal with frustrating or irritating situations.

On an emotional level, Roman Chamomile "supports and individual in discovering and living their true life purpose. Regardless of what they do for a living, Roman Chamomile helps them find purpose and meaning in their lives." -Emotions & Essential Oils. Sounds lovely right? Take a look at these great ways you can use Roman Chamomile.

One of the things I like to do with Roman Chamomile, is that I make a cup of hot water on the stove in my teapot. Then I like to add a drop of Roman Chamomile to a spoonful of raw honey and stir it into a cup of hot water, to drink before bedtime! This is a great way to help support and prepare your body for a restful night's sleep.

Self-Care Playbook

Fill up your cup. Literally, with something lovely like tea, coffee, or essential oil water... and metaphorically with quiet time and things that make you light up inside. We ALL need to do this. Most of us KNOW that we need to do this, we either just choose not to, or end up not making our happiness a priority. This is bad. You have to live with you for the rest of you life, no? Why would you want to live that life unhappy? Why would you choose to give into resistance and allow your happiness to fall off of your priority list?

As my good friend Angela says, "STOP IT!"

Seriously. Stop. It.

If you spent even just 10 minutes a day, carefully and mindfully tending to your own needs, be they quiet time (meditation, yoga, a walk), reading something inspiring, drinking a cup of something fantastic and slowly savoring every sip, writing in a gratitude journal whatever is going to wake up that sparkle in your heart... those 10 minutes can transform your day. If you do this regularly, think of what an impact that can have on your life.

If you are working hard, and constantly pouring yourself into that work, and into others, you MUST... MUST find, and make the time to fill up your cup. This is key to avoid experiencing burnout. I can tell you from experience. I am a work horse. I will just keep going and going. BUT, if I'm not taking time for self care, or for gratitude, I turn into a grumpy gus and I'm no fun to be around. No one wants to play with the grumpy kid on the playground. And rightly so!

Who wants to hang around someone that is just seeping negativity? Yeah, not me! And I'm sure not you either.

So, how we remedy burnout, and a case of the negs is Self care. Gratitude. Filling up your cup. We tell people all the time to take care of themselves, and we need to start looking in the mirror when we say these things. Literally. Mirror work is awesome.

I use this quiet time in many ways, and I will share one of the tools I use with you. This is my Self Care Journal. It asks me all the right questions and puts my heart and brain in the right place. It really gives me that check in with myself, to see if I'm actively taking care of me.

This Self Love Journal really helped me turn things around and believe in myself especially on those "grumpy gus" days. Sometimes getting things down on paper, and turing it around, finding the silver lining in our stuckness can be super invigorating!

You DESERVE to live a happier and more joyful life, and taking the time (as much as you can squeeze in) to get yourself into a more positive state of mind, is critical to getting there. Stop wasting time thinking about "I would be so much happier if..." you can choose to be happier right now, even for just a sliver of your day.

If you aren't sure where to start in helping yourself get to a more peaceful place and a happier state of mind, I would recommend starting here. It's a fun and simple way to put a bit more smile in your style.
