Spooky Toxins or Essential Oils?

October means that all kinds of spooks come out to play, even in your home. No I'm not talking about ghosts, or witches, or silly Halloween costumes, I'm talking about the spooky toxins hiding under your kitchen sink! Do you have a stash of sprays and spritzes that could potentially harm your pets or littles? If so this post is for you. I have shared before about my favorite home recipes in a webinar, but I wanted to bring them all together in one post for you. There's no reason we should be afraid of our cleaning supplies, or be scared when we see our toddler pick it up... at least when you are using DIY Homemade Essential Oil recipes.

Truth be told, there are NO SPOOKS under my kitchen sink! Nope!

Pets & Essential Oils

I'm an animal lover! Gosh, I can't count on one hand how many animals we have had. We even had chickens at one point! hahaha Oh man, that was a fun time! We don't currently have any furry friends living with us right now, but I'm sure many of you do! (edit: 8/25/18) We now have a Golden Retriever named Cooper and he is such a wonderful addition to our family! Today I'm going to share some recipes with you that you can use to help keep your pets in tip-top shape!

Before we get into the recipes, I really need to stress these points:

-animals are smaller, so DILUTING essential oil is very important

-AVOID using melaleuca for cats. PERIOD.

-animals prefer certain aromas just as humans do-- you can experiment with various oils to see how your pet responds to the aroma and benefit of the oil

-to help calm and relax a pet in distress, apply 2-3 drops of diluted lavender to ears and paws.

Ok! Now that we got that out of the way... here are the recipes.



-1/2 tsp of rubbing alcohol

-4 garlic oil capsules (find at your local health food or vitamin store)

-1 drop Cedarwood Essential Oil

-1 drop Lavender Essential Oil

-1 drop Lemon Essential Oil

-1 drop Thyme Essential Oil

Mix ingredients in a medium bowl. Soak pet collar in the mixture for 25-30 minutes. Lay out to dry, and place on animals neck. Repeat once or twice a month.



-1 cup water

-1 tbsp castile soap

-1 tsp vitamin E

-3 drops Peppermint Essential Oil

-2 drops Roman Chamomile Essential Oil

-2 drops Cleansing Blend Essential Oil

-1 drop Cedarwood Essential Oil

Place all ingredients in a glass jar and mix well. Applu a quarter sized amount to pet and scrub a dub dub! You may need to use a little more on a larger pet. Shampoo will be a bit watery, but your pet will be clean and smell great for days!



-25 drops Lemon Essential Oil

-4 cups Baking Soda

Combine in a large bowl. Sprinkle 2 tablespoons of mixture onto kitty litter when cleaning box!

Use aromatically and topically to get from mindless to energized!


Use 10-15 drops mixed with water in a glass spray bottle.


Use 10 drops of Lemon eo and 10 drops Eucalyptus eo, and mix with 1 cup of water to fill a glass spray bottle. Spray on the areas you do not want your cat to scratch.


Mix 8oz of water, 2 tbsp of borax, and 20 drops of Lemon eo in a glass spray bottle. Shake it like a polaroid picture! Spray directly onto the satain and wash.


Use 2-3 drops on dried up stickers or stubborn adhesives that just won't seem to come off! Let it sit for a few minutes and then wash off with soap and water! All gone!


Naturally cleanse the body and aid in your digestion by adding a drop or two to a glass of water! I like to have mine in hot water with raw honey in the morning!


Add 10-15 drops to a glass spray bottle, fill it up 30-40% of the way with white vinegar, and the rest of the way with water. Shake it up! Shake it up! Clean as you normally would.

*Avoid exposure of affected are to sunlight or UV rays for 12 hours after direct topical application.
