As for science... Did you know that humans share approximately 85 percent of our ribosomal RNA and 50 percent of our DNA with fungi—which is another way of saying that mushrooms are extremely bioavailable to human bodies. This means mushrooms have a higher chance of providing   functional benefits to humans than many other products, probably because the same defense mechanisms fungi use can help our bodies when we consume mushrooms. Essential oils for Coffee

Lately I have been living for my french press.

Ok, maybe not living for it, but I have definitely enjoyed the rich, flavorful coffee that comes out of it. More often than not, my tea or coffee is the most “complicated” part of my day. I like to make it fancy, even though it’s actually quite simple. Most of the things in my life… I like to keep simple!

Essential Oils for Coffee

With that being said, I wanted to share a few different recipes, er, essential oils really, to jazz up your morning cuppa joe, and to add a little adventure into your life! Certain essential oils have a rich culinary history and can be used as dietary supplements supporting a variety of healthy conditions. When you sprinkle cinnamon on your oatmeal, sip a mug of peppermint tea, or add fresh basil leaves to your spaghetti, you are actually consuming some volatile aromatic essential oil compounds.

Essential oil contributes many health benefits as well as flavoring and aroma properties to foods. When in their concentrated form, essential oils can be used as dietary supplements for more targeted and potent health benefits. Internal use is a very safe and effective method of application because of the sophisticated physiologic processes of our bodies.

No matter how you take your coffee, adding 1 drop of any of these essential oils, is sure to take you on an adventure!

When ingested, essential oils directly enter the blood stream via the gastrointestinal tract, where they are transported throughout the rest of the body. Essential oils are lipid soluble so they are readily transported to all organs of the body, including the brain. Then, like all things we consume, essential oils are metabolized by the liver and other organs and are then excreted.

The composition of essential oils is highly complex. Each constituent possesses a unique set of biochemical properties that react with cells and organs in different ways. Although these mechanisms of action are not completely understood, the positive end results have been demonstrated. However, the body is only equipped to handle appropriate doses of essential oils.

So! Enjoy your cup of coffee with a little drop of joy! I can’t wait to hear which oil you plan to try first!

DIY: Healthy Detox Habits

We take our bodies through the proverbial wringer all the time. With processed foods creeping into our cupboards and running out of time to cook homemade meals due to being overworked, taking your body through a gentle cleanse, and subsequently a 30 day cleanse, is a proactive way to combat this.

healthy detox habits

I want you to remember that it is ok to mess up. It's ok to slip here and there. None of us are perfect, and if we were, we would be one big bunch of boring people, right?

The best thing about all of this is that it is SIMPLE and will be easily integrated into your already busy lifestyle! I know you are busy. I KNOW it. Even when most of us have a moment for a breather or some down time, we usually find a way to fill that void with some sort of productive activity instead of kicking back and relaxing.

I want you to remember that it is ok to mess up. It's ok to slip here and there. None of us are perfect, and if we were, we would be one big bunch of boring people, right? SO, that being said, give yourself permission to be imperfect, and fill yourself with as much love and gratitude as you can muster while you are cleansing. You may be prone to grumpiness in the beginning, and that is ok. Allow yourself those moments and move forward with love.

I'm here to to support you and I'm always around for questions!

Let’s Cleanse that Body!

Start with Lemon

How do I Start?

Likely the most important thing I can tell you is to start out slow and gentle.

The simplest part of your daily cleanse is going to be adding a drop of Lemon essential oil to a glass of water, three times throughout your day. Not only will this encourage you to drink more water, but it will also flush out some of the yuck you may be carrying around with you. Take a look at how LEMON can support your body:

  • Naturally cleanses the body and aids in digestion

  • Supports healthy respiratory function

  • Promotes a positive mood and cognitive ability

  • Helps ward off free radicals with its antioxidant benefits

  • Soothes an irritated throat

So I am sure you can see why adding this to your current routine would be super beneficial! Even if you only choose to do this, you will really be supporting your body in a gentle and wonderful way! My top tip when doing this is to always start with one drop! You can always choose to add more in the future, but for now…

Start with one!

Powerful Vitamin Trio

Powerful Vitamin Trio

I have to share about the vitamin supplements that I use personally to support my nutrition and promote an overall sense of well being! Of course I’m talking about the Lifelong Vitality trio! What is fab about them is that they also gently cleanse the body while simultaneously nourish it through vitamins, minerals, essential oils, and whole food nutrients.

This triad of awesomeness is compiled of xEO Mega, Micro Plex MVp, and Alpha CRS+. The recommended full daily dose is 4 of each, for a total of 12 vitamins. These are to be taken with food. Don't take your vities on an empty stomach, please!

HOWEVER, starting out with 1 of each and seeing how you feel is the best way to go when you are taking a gentler approach to a cleanse. You know your body better than anyone else, so listen to it and follow your gut. Literally.

Follow. Your. Gut.

Another sweet benefit to these supplements is that you can take them all the time. My husband and I take them every day, and they really give us that extra little something to get us though our days!

If you take a look at this post I did here, you can see all of the valuable benefits to these supplements, and to be honest, this barely scratches the surface!

Simple. Gentle. Effective.

Fill up your Smoothie Cup

Essential Oils 101

What Are Essential Oils?

If you have ever enjoyed the scent of a rose, you’ve experienced the aromatic qualities of essential oils. These naturally occurring, volatile aromatic compounds are found in the seeds, bark, stems, roots, flowers, and other parts of plants. Essential oils provide plants with protection against environmental threats and play a role in plant pollination. In addition to their intrinsic benefits to plants and being beautifully fragrant to people, essential oils have long been used for food preparation, beauty treatment, and health-care practices.

How Do I Use Essential Oils?

Essential oils are used for a very wide range of emotional and physical wellness applications. They can be used a single oil at a time or in complex blends in one of three methods:

Copy of Blog post-13.png

Aromatic

Certain essential oils, when diffused, can be very stimulating, while others can be calming and soothing. Diffusing essential oils can also cleanse and purify the air of unwanted odors.

Topical

Essential oils are easily absorbed by the skin and can be safely applied topically.

Internal

Certain essential oils have a rich culinary history and can be used as dietary supplements for targeted wellness.

Essential oils are both exciting and promising when it comes to taking care of your own and your family’s health. Whether you’re applying essential oils topically, enjoying the aromatic benefits through diffusing, or taking essential oils internally, the positive effects of essential oils are boundless.

That’s why you’ll want to ensure that the essential oils you are using are capable of delivering on their promise. You’ll want to make sure that you are choosing essential oils for their potency and their purity. Below are some of my favorites!

Looking for another recipe to try? Try this Mushroom basil Fettuccine!

The flavor in this easy pasta comes in large part from Crimini mushrooms and toasted pine nuts, subtly influenced by just a bit of Basil and Black Pepper oil. You may be asking why we use the essential oils in this recipe when the plant and spice are both so readily available in the store. The answer is simple: for their internal benefits. The Basil essential oil supports your nervous system and cardiovascular health, while Black Pepper essential oil can help support health circulation and contains important antioxidants.* As an added bonus, if made with egg-free noodles this dish makes a great vegan meal.

Ingredients 4 servings fettuccine noodles 3 garlic cloves, minced ½ onion, chopped Sea salt, to taste 300–350 grams brown mushrooms (Italian or Crimini) 1 drop Basil oil 1 drop Black Pepper oil 4 tablespoons olive oil 2 tablespoons pine nuts Fresh basil leaves, to garnish Instructions

  1. Using a damp paper towel, wipe each mushroom to remove any dirt, or lightly rinse the mushrooms with cool water and pat dry with paper towels. Do not soak the mushrooms as they will retain too much water to cook properly.

  2. Chop onion, and mince garlic. Cut mushrooms by trimming and discarding thin slices from the end of the stems. Slice the mushroom from top to stem to your desired thickness.

  3. Cook pasta according to package instructions in salted water.

  4. As pasta is cooking, heat 3 tablespoons olive oil in a pan. Roast onion and mushrooms in the heated oil for about 10 minutes, or until mushrooms are golden and the onion is clear and soft. Add garlic about 2 minutes before lowering heat, watching carefully so as not to burn. Remove from heat.

  5. In another pan, toast pine nuts until golden.

  6. Once pasta is al dente, drain. Mix together 1 tablespoon olive oil with 1 drop Basil and 1 drop Black Pepper oil. Pour oil mixture over noodles, and toss until evenly coated.

  7. Add mushrooms, onions, garlic, and pine nuts to the noodles and mix until combined. Salt to taste.

  8. Serve hot, topped with fresh basil.

Tips: Add red pepper flakes for more color and heat.
