5 years later...

Today we celebrate my 5 year anniversary with dōTERRA. I can’t even begin to describe how grateful I am... but I will certainly try my best. dōTERRA pulled me out of the darkness in my life. In so many ways... dōTERRA saved me. Our family has been deeply touched by the impact of our essential oils and supplements, in ways that I am so grateful for. Our emotional health, physical health, family dynamic, marital relationship... all have been improved and supported by these little brown bottles.

Over the last 5 years, I have met so many kind hearts and beautiful souls. My community has grown from a few oil lovers, to a family of almost 1,000. As we share these gifts of the earth with others, we are making a difference in their quality of life. We are also making a global impact... David Stirling said this so beautifully,

“What I admire most about the people of dōTERRA is our love of others and our commitment to share and give back. We are you-centric. As a result of this outward mindset is that as we focus on others, we grow in power as a person. We discover who we really are, and who we can really become, as we lead, guide, and walk beside the people in our lives. In that process we also will find that our hearts are filled with a more satisfying joy as those people whom we have helped achieve their goals.”

This is the heart of dōTERRA, the heart of my business, and the heart of my mission in life. It has always been my hope and dream to create a positive impact in the world, and I am so grateful for our High Vibe Oils Tribe. In the last five years I have grown so much, and watched others as they rise, shine, and live a more vibrant and healthy lifestyle.

“You can go after your dreams, and still be the world’s greatest mom, all at the same time. We are teaching our children to chase their dreams.” -Emily Wright

If I have made a positive impact in your life in the last five years, (oily or not) I would love for you to share with me in the comments, and help me celebrate such a beautiful milestone in my life and business.

My 23andMe Results!
Blog-Post-Headers-February.png

Back in December I purchased two kits from 23andMe as a Christmas present for my Husband. We have been talking about ancestry and DNA forever, so I knew it would be the perfect gift to do something together, and learn more about ourselves, and each other. To begin with, the "extraction process" is super un-romantic, because you have to spit into a tube, over and over again until it reaches a certain line. It is quite entertaining though! We had a good laugh for sure!

We mailed off our samples right away and patiently (well, me... not so patiently) awaited our results. Brien got his back much sooner than I did, and we had fun learning all about his ancestry, and learning which family stories he was told were inaccurate. I grew up hearing from my family that I am

  • German

  • French

  • Irish

  • English

  • Scottish

  • Welsh

  • Romanian

  • Hungarian

  • Italian

This of course I walked through life understanding to be my heritage and Ancestry. My mother moved to the states from Germany when she was 18. My Great-Grandmother spoke Italian. All of this lead me to be super duper curious about what my DNA actually says, and what kinds of things are expressed through me! So.... here are the results from my DNA test from 23andMe!

Honestly, it's really not too far off from what I grew up with from family stories! One of the things that surprised me the most was the Ashkenazi Jewish, and East Asian & Native American. I also opted to pay a little extra to see my carrier status and genetic health risks. I totally feel like the cost of these kits are worth it, even if it's just a fun little thing you do for your own knowledge!

For instance the chart below shows how many generations ago your most recent ancestor was for each population. This module uses your Ancestry Composition results to estimate the generation range where you are likely to have had a single relative who descended from a single population. These results may be helpful for learning about your genealogy, in figuring out from which ancestors a particular ancestry may have been inherited, or for piecing together the history of their likely migrations. This is mine!

I also loved learning about my Maternal Haplogroup. I descend from a long line of women that can be traced back to eastern Africa over 150,000 years ago. These are the women of my maternal line, and my maternal haplogroup sheds light on their story. This group is I3.

As our ancestors ventured out of eastern Africa, they branched off in diverse groups that crossed and recrossed the globe over tens of thousands of years. Some of their migrations can be traced through haplogroups, families of lineages that descend from a common ancestor. Your maternal haplogroup can reveal the path followed by the women of your maternal line.

If every person living today could trace his or her maternal line back over thousands of generations, all of our lines would meet at a single woman who lived in eastern Africa between 150,000 and 200,000 years ago. Though she was one of perhaps thousands of women alive at the time, only the diverse branches of her haplogroup have survived to today. The story of your maternal line begins with her.

One of the really cool things I learned from this was that Haplogroup I may have been carried to Iceland by the Vikings! Some Icelanders also bear haplogroup I, a suggestion that their ancestry traces back to British and Irish women who were taken away from their homes by Viking raiders during the 9th and 10th centuries AD. But haplogroup I also appears to have been present in Scandinavia during the Viking era. Ancient DNA belonging to the haplogroup was extracted from skeletal remains at an early Christian cemetery in Denmark.

Today, haplogroup I is very rare in Denmark. But it is found at a level of about 4% in Finland and 2% in other parts of Scandinavia.

I am definitely pleased with the thoroughness of my results and the ability to connect with DNA relatives (some of my actual cousins did kits and also showed up!) and to learn so much more about myself. In a weird way, I feel more at home in my skin, knowing that certain hunches I had were correct, and that I can walk through life knowing where my family came from!

Are you excited to give it a try? Let me know!

My Dream Reading Space!
2.png

If you didn't hear... my hubby and I just bought our dream home, and we will be moving back to Colorado next month! Since I have been so excited about creating a home in our new place, pinning ideas like crazy, and overall just downright excited, I figured I would share some of the things I have been dreaming up lately! I absolutely love to read, and so I wanted to share what my dream reading space would look like! I'm still trying to figure out exactly where this will be, but I'm super thrilled to be sharing with you!

As a book lover and avid reader, I have dreamt of creating this perfect space, forerver! Of course there are little "must-haves" that I absolutely need in this space, like my crystals, a diffuser, my oils of course, snuggly blankets, cozy pillows, and a fantastic rug! Among those things are furniture too, and I've always struggled with deciding between a comfy couch or a little reading nook that is recessed into the wall.

In any case, in my quest for the perfect pieces online, I came across Arhaus! They have a variety of beautiful home decor, and I completely fell head over heels for some of their pieces!

One of the pieces I have really fallen in love with, is the Athens Library in French White. With its vintage silhouettes and artisan-applied finishes, our Athens collection will infuse your space with the ambiance and sophisticated charm of an old English library. It is so beautiful, and it totally reminds me of Disney's Beauty and the Beast when Belle goes to borrow her favorite book again!

When I was browsing around the Arhaus lighting collection, I found so many gorgeous pieces that I really just drooled over. The Vivienne Chandelier totally stole my heart with it's light, playful take on traditional chandelier designs, Vivienne strikes a delicate balance between a rustic iron frame and hand-painted wood beads. Isn't it absolutely breathtaking?

I also really fell in love with the coziness of some of their designs. When I read, I want to feel cozy, and completely immerse myself into the words on the pages. I found so many pieces that would fit perfectly into my dream reading space, and I cannot wait to get to work on that once we are all moved into our new home! Speaking of the new home... you can see a picture of it here!

Do you dream of a perfectly cozy reading space? What are your must haves?

2017 Year in Review

This last year has been transformational, and a huge blessing of manifestations for my family. I can only hope that your 2017 was equally as eye opening and transformational for you. I did want to share a little bit with you about some of the milestones and happenings in my household, so that you can celebrate along with me and my family! There were lots of sacrifices this year, but lots of celebrations too!

January

  • We made the decision that we no longer wanted to be victims in our finances are really hunkered down on paying off debt. This was not easy, and we were also going through some PTSD things as well! But... we kicked off the year with a bang nonetheless!

February

  • I got effing serious about my self care routine. With the mass amount of support and structure I needed to provide, I had to be sure I was taking care of myself too. I am so glad I made a serious habit out of this. It has served our family and whole community 10 fold.

March

  • We decided to forgo Leadership Retreat and pay off another card. Holy moly this was so hard! I was met with so much judgement fo this choice, but it ended up being exactly what my family needed, and we are stronger today for it!

April

  • Officially our second year in the Arizona Mountain home. Not our permanent home, but grateful to have had a roof over our head for the last 2 years! Grateful also to my parents for taking us on as tenants! Daen also turned 5 years old, and we had a party for him at the park!

May

  • Brien and I celebrated our 6 year wedding anniversary on the 13th. I also celebrated my "Golden Birthday" by turning 30 on May 30th! ( can I get a whoop whoop!?)

June

  • The City of Show Low asked me to come back and educate people about essential oils at their annual health fair! This is always so much fun, and I love connecting with local peeps!

July

  • Daen had his last Tee-ball games of the year. We then got him all signed up for Soccer that started a couple weeks later! Soccer was so much fun and we loved seeing him practice and play!

August

  • Do you remember the Total Solar Eclipse!? We were down in Phoenix during the eclipse because Brien had an appointment with someone from the VA. We made a little mini vacay out of it by staying the night in a hotel, and it was a nice little getaway!

September

  • We opted not to physically attend convention this year, so that we could send more money away to pay off debt. I was still able to watch from home, and one of my blog posts about the new products was crazy popular!

October

  • My mom became a Silver leader in doTERRA! This was such a wonderful month for my entire oil community, but I was most excited to celebrate my mama's success! She is one of my closest friends, and a badass biz partner!

November

  • I was selected as Navopache Electric Co-Op Inc's "Business of the Month" and featured in the local newspaper! I was totally surprised and grateful for the recognition.

December

  • We paid off all of our outstanding debt! The only debt we still have is our Subaru, but that is almost paid off too! Whoohoo! (Debt free scream anyone?!) I also published Essential Goddess and celebrated the release of my first book!

And that my friend, is my 2017 year in review! I'm grateful for the obstacles and challenges that got me where I am today! Let me know what you hope to experience in 2018!

Happy New Year Oilers!

Christmas Traditions

Merry Christmas everyone! I'm so happy to besmearing some of my family's traditions with you today, as you celebrate with yours! Each year we have evolved our traditions as we haven't always lived in the same place. These last 2 Christmases have been super amazing as we have been able to go on the Polar Express!

Last Christmas, we rode the Polar Express in our Pajamas and Robes. We all matched and it was so much fun! On the train, you get to hear the story of the Polar Express, and you also get a chocolate chip cookie AND *hot hot hot* Hot chocolate! It was so much fun! The next day, we went to Bearizona, which was so cool, as they have a drive through zoo essentially. The predators just roam free and it is SO cool!  We also did a sleigh ride up in the snow once we were back home and that was so much fun! Here are some photos from last year:

We also do a Christmas puzzle every year. I love doing puzzles, and it is so much fun to work on something together as a family! Let em tell you, last year our puzzle was ridiculously difficult as the pieces weren't cut to regular jigsaw shapes! It took us forever but we finally finished it!

In addition to these fun traditions, we also watch Christmas movies, diffuse Holiday Joy, listen to Christmas music, and decorate the house. Most of our Christmas decor is Disney, but much of it is rustic too. I have these beautiful hand made ornaments that are crafted from straw. These are prized possessions of mine as they were gifted from family members in Germany.

I hope that you have a beautiful day today and remember that it's not important what is under the tree, it's important who is around the tree!

Merry Christmas Oilers!

Why are Essential Oils so Expensive?

doTERRA is committed to providing the purest, most potent essential oils possible. doTERRA employs a global network of farmers who knows intimately the process of growing plants for essential oils. Every doTERRA essential oil is put through the highest standard of rigorous and thorough testing and sets the bar for quality, purity, efficacy, and consistency.

Are oils expensive?

Essential Oils have always been part of my life. When I was an infant, my mother (who immigrated from Germany at the age of 18) had family send her some peppermint essential oil. Throughout my childhood, adolescence, and well into adulthood, I used Lavender, Peppermint, and Melaleuca. I used them primarily for Aromatic and Topical application. When I found doTERRA, I knew something was different... special... a class of it's own in quality. We (my husband, son, parents, extended family) have been using doTERRA oils exclusively since March of 2013, and it has been one of the most life changing decisions for us. I am so proud to be part of a company that cares so much for the wellbeing of everyone all over the world, including those that harvest and source our oils.

I am so grateful that we have such pure and potent essential oils, that are safe for all members of the family. Today I am excited to share a couple short videos with you and some fun science info, so that you can see why the purity of an essential oil matters so much. Before you dive in, think of it like this: If you went to Starbucks and ordered an Americano, you expect it to be strong and pure black coffee. If they instead served you up a hot cup of water with 1-2 drops of Americano coffee in it, do you think you would experience the same thing as that pure black coffee? I didn't think so.

The purity of an essential oil is its most important characteristic. An essential oil that isn’t pure means you run the risk of putting germs, heavy metals, or adulterants onto or into your body, which can provoke irritation, adverse effects, or even sickness. Without an accepted standard for essential oil quality, doTERRA created its own testing process, calling it CPTG Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade. The CPTG process certifies that there are no added fillers, synthetic ingredients, or harmful contaminants in their essential oils that would reduce their efficacy. doTERRA even goes a step further, putting all their products and the packaging through a battery of tests to ensure a long and effective shelf-life. This protocol ensures potency, purity, and consistency batch to batch.

Before the CPTG® Process Begins

Proper methods of growing, harvesting, and distilling are also crucial to maintaining purity. Poor production practices and the development of synthetic essential oil variations suggest that it is impossible to accurately identify a pure essential oil without scientific analysis. Appropriate analysis of the constituents within an essential oil is one of the most challenging and detailed aspects of quality assurance.

Knowing which of the many different species of a given plant will provide the most profound therapeutic health benefits is the first step in producing the highest quality essential oil. Relying on the expertise of botanists, chemists and wellness practitioners, botanical materials are carefully selected for their natural concentrations of active aromatic compounds.

Nurturing plants in the most favorable environment and carefully harvesting and transporting plant material for processing ensures an optimal yield of pure and potent essential oils. Spanning the continents of the globe, doTERRA’s exclusive network of growers and harvesters are experts at cultivating plants specific to the essential oil industry.

The CPTG® Process

The CPTG testing begins immediately after distillation with each oil being reviewed for its chemical composition. A second round of testing is carried out at our production facility to ensure that what was distilled and tested is the same essential oil as was received. A third review of the chemistry of the oil is conducted in a three-phase procedure as the oils are packaged into the bottles we use as consumers. Each of these tests confirms that the essential oil is free of contaminants and unexpected alterations during production.

The CPTG Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade quality protocol includes the following tests:

  • Organoleptic testing

  • Microbial testing

  • Gas chromatography

  • Mass spectrometry

  • Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR)

  • Chirality testing

  • Isotopic analysis

  • Heavy metal testing

Historically, gas chromatography was sufficient to identify individual components in an essential oil. However, as more sophisticated methods for developing synthetic essential oil products formed, further validation methods were needed. Over time, additional testing methods such as mass spectroscopy, chiral analysis, FTIR Scan, carbon isotope analysis and others have been developed to more accurately identify each individual essential oil constituent. Providing CPTG (Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade) essential oils is part of doTERRA's promise to you to give you the best the world has to offer. doTERRA is continuously creating new ways to provide the quality you deserve by focusing on the details.

When you purchase and use essential oils, you want to make sure you are putting the best quality product on your body, in your diffuser, and even in your body. I can't tell you how amazed I am, as a lifelong essential oil user, at how incredible the quality is of doTERRA's essential oils.
