Why do we choose to Suffer?

Why do we choose to suffer?

An even more interesting question to ask, would be, "Why do so many successful people suffer?" If you want to stop suffering, you need to decide there is no longer room for it in your life. Make the decision that life is too short to suffer, and commit to only living in a beautiful state. Did you know when you negotiate with yourself, that you are actually stripping yourself of power?

Let's have a quick chat about your brain. Your brain, as beautiful as it is... is not designed to make you happy. It is designed to protect you, to keep you safe, it is designed as a form of survival. Because the brain wants to live in a state of survival mode, it is constantly looking for what is *wrong*. This is your Fight or Flight survival software... and it's time to go in like an expert hacker and hijack the crap out of your brain. Last time I checked... you weren't being chased by Lions on the regular, so it's time to upgrade your software!

We at least need to be able to notice when our survival software is running, so that we can step out of it when it's necessary. Something else to note, since we aren't being chased by lions, and tigers, and bears (oh my!), the new normal "dangers" that we are running from are thoughts... yes thoughts! Be honest, have you ever thought any of these?

  • What are they thinking of me?

  • Do I have enough money?

  • Am I doing well by my children?

  • What's wrong with me?

  • Am I enough?

It's a relief to know that these thoughts aren't yours alone... but knowing this isn't going to shift anything. More important to know and understand... What are your favorite flavors of suffering? Anger? Worry? Frustration? Resentment? Overwhelm? Stress? Loneliness? Depression? Sadness? If you can identify your favorite flavors of suffering you are able to better hijack your own software. It's important to realize that suffering begets more suffering (just as happiness begets more happiness!) and our goal is to stop the suffering as it arises.

What is *wrong* is always available, and so is what is right. It is all about what we choose to focus on. Take control of your mind so that your spirit, soul, and emotions can soar! ⠀

5 years later...

Today we celebrate my 5 year anniversary with dōTERRA. I can’t even begin to describe how grateful I am... but I will certainly try my best. dōTERRA pulled me out of the darkness in my life. In so many ways... dōTERRA saved me. Our family has been deeply touched by the impact of our essential oils and supplements, in ways that I am so grateful for. Our emotional health, physical health, family dynamic, marital relationship... all have been improved and supported by these little brown bottles.

Over the last 5 years, I have met so many kind hearts and beautiful souls. My community has grown from a few oil lovers, to a family of almost 1,000. As we share these gifts of the earth with others, we are making a difference in their quality of life. We are also making a global impact... David Stirling said this so beautifully,

“What I admire most about the people of dōTERRA is our love of others and our commitment to share and give back. We are you-centric. As a result of this outward mindset is that as we focus on others, we grow in power as a person. We discover who we really are, and who we can really become, as we lead, guide, and walk beside the people in our lives. In that process we also will find that our hearts are filled with a more satisfying joy as those people whom we have helped achieve their goals.”

This is the heart of dōTERRA, the heart of my business, and the heart of my mission in life. It has always been my hope and dream to create a positive impact in the world, and I am so grateful for our High Vibe Oils Tribe. In the last five years I have grown so much, and watched others as they rise, shine, and live a more vibrant and healthy lifestyle.

“You can go after your dreams, and still be the world’s greatest mom, all at the same time. We are teaching our children to chase their dreams.” -Emily Wright

If I have made a positive impact in your life in the last five years, (oily or not) I would love for you to share with me in the comments, and help me celebrate such a beautiful milestone in my life and business.

My 23andMe Results!
Blog-Post-Headers-February.png

Back in December I purchased two kits from 23andMe as a Christmas present for my Husband. We have been talking about ancestry and DNA forever, so I knew it would be the perfect gift to do something together, and learn more about ourselves, and each other. To begin with, the "extraction process" is super un-romantic, because you have to spit into a tube, over and over again until it reaches a certain line. It is quite entertaining though! We had a good laugh for sure!

We mailed off our samples right away and patiently (well, me... not so patiently) awaited our results. Brien got his back much sooner than I did, and we had fun learning all about his ancestry, and learning which family stories he was told were inaccurate. I grew up hearing from my family that I am

  • German

  • French

  • Irish

  • English

  • Scottish

  • Welsh

  • Romanian

  • Hungarian

  • Italian

This of course I walked through life understanding to be my heritage and Ancestry. My mother moved to the states from Germany when she was 18. My Great-Grandmother spoke Italian. All of this lead me to be super duper curious about what my DNA actually says, and what kinds of things are expressed through me! So.... here are the results from my DNA test from 23andMe!

Ancestry-Composition-23andMe-2018-02-24-12-59-24-1024x734.png

Honestly, it's really not too far off from what I grew up with from family stories! One of the things that surprised me the most was the Ashkenazi Jewish, and East Asian & Native American. I also opted to pay a little extra to see my carrier status and genetic health risks. I totally feel like the cost of these kits are worth it, even if it's just a fun little thing you do for your own knowledge!

For instance the chart below shows how many generations ago your most recent ancestor was for each population. This module uses your Ancestry Composition results to estimate the generation range where you are likely to have had a single relative who descended from a single population. These results may be helpful for learning about your genealogy, in figuring out from which ancestors a particular ancestry may have been inherited, or for piecing together the history of their likely migrations. This is mine!

Ancestry-Composition-23andMe-2018-02-24-13-00-08-1024x340.png

I also loved learning about my Maternal Haplogroup. I descend from a long line of women that can be traced back to eastern Africa over 150,000 years ago. These are the women of my maternal line, and my maternal haplogroup sheds light on their story. This group is I3.

As our ancestors ventured out of eastern Africa, they branched off in diverse groups that crossed and recrossed the globe over tens of thousands of years. Some of their migrations can be traced through haplogroups, families of lineages that descend from a common ancestor. Your maternal haplogroup can reveal the path followed by the women of your maternal line.

If every person living today could trace his or her maternal line back over thousands of generations, all of our lines would meet at a single woman who lived in eastern Africa between 150,000 and 200,000 years ago. Though she was one of perhaps thousands of women alive at the time, only the diverse branches of her haplogroup have survived to today. The story of your maternal line begins with her.

Maternal-Haplogroup-23andMe-2018-02-24-14-36-57.png

One of the really cool things I learned from this was that Haplogroup I may have been carried to Iceland by the Vikings! Some Icelanders also bear haplogroup I, a suggestion that their ancestry traces back to British and Irish women who were taken away from their homes by Viking raiders during the 9th and 10th centuries AD. But haplogroup I also appears to have been present in Scandinavia during the Viking era. Ancient DNA belonging to the haplogroup was extracted from skeletal remains at an early Christian cemetery in Denmark.

Today, haplogroup I is very rare in Denmark. But it is found at a level of about 4% in Finland and 2% in other parts of Scandinavia.

Maternal-Haplogroup-23andMe-2018-02-24-15-11-33.png

I am definitely pleased with the thoroughness of my results and the ability to connect with DNA relatives (some of my actual cousins did kits and also showed up!) and to learn so much more about myself. In a weird way, I feel more at home in my skin, knowing that certain hunches I had were correct, and that I can walk through life knowing where my family came from!

Spikenard

Revered since ancient times for its uplifting, relaxing aroma and ability to promote clean skin, Spikenard essential oil is still extremely useful and beneficial today. Used to promote healthy skin, relaxation, and an uplifted mood, Spikenard oil is known for its distinct, woody, spicy scent that creates a pleasant aroma when diffused or used as a personal perfume. One of the greatest benefits of Spikenard oil is its uplifting aroma that can help promote feelings of relaxation and calmness. Throughout history, Spikenard has commonly been used to manage and uplift mood, or to help promote relaxation. Today, Spikenard oil can be helpful for promoting calm, relaxing, or uplifting feelings when used topically or aromatically.

Spikenard has a woody, musky aroma that is very uplifting and promotes feelings of calmness and relaxation. It is frequently used in aromatherapy and meditation for its grounding properties. It has a long historical significance of being very therapeutic and purifying to the skin, and promotes clean, healthy skin. Let me tell you a little bit more about some of the specific benefits for this powerful oil.

Renowned for its cleansing and rejuvenating effect on the skin. -It can be applied to minor skin irritations to protect them from threats -Deodorant—Many people find it very useful for helping to eliminate body odor. -Digestive—Its stimulating, calming effect is effective in eliminating occasional stomach discomfort. -Its calming quality has long been utilized to soothe nerves and promote healthy sleep. -Respiratory—It is very useful in helping to support healthy respiratory function caused by environmental and seasonal threats. -Antioxidant—It protects the body from wear and tear and from occasional outside threats. -Many people find that just the aroma alone is able to lift them out of depressed moods. -It helps to support healthy digestive function and keeping your bowels running normal -Emotions—This oil is very beneficial for helping to produce mental peace and harmony in the emotions.

Spikenard is a root oil, which helps promote a healthy inflammatory response. It is recommended that you apply Spikenard to your spine, using a downward application, neck to the base of the spine.

Spikenard is special. It is one of the most important Biblical oils. Spikenard is consider Nard in the Bible, although some believe that this could have been lavender. In John, 12:1–10, six days before the passover Jesus arrives in Bethany. In Bethany, a woman called Mary perhaps the sister of Lazarus uses a pound of pure nard to rub onto Jesus’ feet. Many Biblical experts love to use Spikenard especially when there is need to purify and elevate. This is probably why it was used with Jesus. On an emotional level it is used to help people find themselves. It will help them answer the question, “Why was I born?” We all have a mission or divine purpose in life and Spikenard helps you to identity yourself. Spikenard speaks to “I was lost and now I am found.”

Scriptures: Song of Solomon 1:12, 4:13, 4:14; Mark 14:3; John 12:3

“Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment.” ~ John 12:3

Some argue that the spikenard mentioned in the bible might actually have been lavender. There are various species of lavender and the one which may be confused with spikenard is that of spike lavender (Lavandula latifolia). Spike lavender is a small, aromatic herb or shrub; it belongs to the Lamiaceae plant family and is closely related to true lavender (Lavandula angustifolia), lavandin (Lavandula x intermedia) and other lavender varieties.

The ancient Greeks and Romans were thought to have used spike lavender for various ailments. The Greeks referred to spike lavender by the name Nardus, after the city of Naarda, whereas the Romans referred to spike lavender as Asurum."

Did you know that Spikenard had such an incredible history?

The purposes behind the doTERRA Co-Impact Sourcing® initiative are varied. From ensuring the highest quality essential oil to facilitating humanitarian efforts with communities where our oils are sourced, each “co-impact sourced” oil presents a unique opportunity to have an impact on the world. In the case of Douglas Fir, one of the most unique benefits is the positive impact the sourcing of this oil has on New Zealand’s environment.

“With this Douglas Fir essential oil,” says Tim Valentiner, Director of Strategic Sourcing, “we have been able to create with our partners a truly unique essential oil that provides tremendously positive environmental impacts for New Zealand’s biodiverse landscape, highlighting the environmental responsibility objectives of Co-Impact Sourcing.”

Wilding Pines

Douglas Fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii) is an evergreen conifer species native to western North America that has been used primarily in the lumber industry. However, in New Zealand, Douglas Fir has been categorized by the government as an invasive species. It was planted originally for the lumber industry, and from there it bred very rapidly and uncontrollably into areas where it wasn’t intended to grow. The trees grow 25 times faster in New Zealand than in North America, and the dense root systems push out all or many of the native species of plants, making it nearly impossible for anything else to grow. Douglas Fir trees, which are known as “wilding conifers” in New Zealand, are also self-seeding. This means that they produce seeds that fall to the ground and replant themselves in that location. These seeds germinate then begin to sprout and grow at the start of the growing season. By the end of the season, new seeds are produced and begin the cycle over again. This, coupled with the rate of growth in New Zealand, is the cause behind the “wilding conifer” problem with Douglas Fir.

doTERRA Solution

To help alleviate the environmental impacts of this wilding problem, doTERRA established an exclusive sourcing partnership with a small-scale company. This company works through government and other programs for the harvesting of these invasive Douglas Fir trees for raw materials, and then distills them into an invigorating and truly unique essential oil. Choosing to source Douglas Fir oil from New Zealand provides doTERRA with an opportunity to participate in a project that is very socially innovative and environmentally responsible—literally turning a problem or pest into a beautiful, sustainable product.

“We are reducing the problem, we are having a great ecological impact, and, in return, we get this beautiful essential oil.” –Dr. David K. Hill

I love using Douglas Fir regularly and use it before I put on my deodorant! It really does smell like Christmastime and has such a fresh and invigorating (yet warming) aroma! Is this an oil you think you will add to your arsenal? I can't wait to hear how to plan to use it!

Ylang Ylang

The Ylang Ylang, or Cananga odorata, is a plant characterized by its drooping branches and bright green leaves. Along the green stems of this plant grow stalks from which multiple yellow-green flowers bloom. These flowers dangle from the stalks and are highly fragrant. The pungent flowers also produce green fruits that grow in clusters and turn black when ripe. doTERRA Ylang Ylang essential oil is extracted from the flower of the Ylang Ylang plant. The Ylang Ylang plant is also called the perfume tree, due to its highly fragrant flowers.

Help transform your dreary mood to a cheery mood by using Ylang Ylang essential oil. Whenever you are feeling down or stressed, apply a few drops of Ylang Ylang essential oil to the back of your neck for a calming and uplifting effect. Due to one of Ylang Ylang oil’s main chemical constituents, germacrene, the oil contains natural abilities to soothe. Ylang Ylang is also known for its uplifting effects and is a great oil to apply when in need of an elevating boost. Use Ylang Ylang essential oil aromatically or topically for a more optimistic perspective. Ylang Ylang is a powerful uplifting component and helps promote a positive outlook. Ylang Ylang’s rich scent is well loved and has been used extensively for making perfumes. For a wonderful-smelling, natural perfume, put a drop or two of Ylang Ylang on your wrists. This perfume will also give off a soothing and calming aroma.

Create the perfect massage blend for de-stressing with Ylang Ylang essential oil. Ylang Ylang is known and valued for its ability to soothe and calm the mood while also providing an uplifting effect. To create a powerful and effective massage blend that helps reduce the effects of daily stresses, add several drops of Ylang Ylang to doTERRA Fractionated Coconut Oil and massage into your back and shoulders.

Two of the main chemical constituents of Ylang Ylang essential oil are caryophyllene and germacrene. These two chemical components are part of the sesquiterpenes group. Ylang Ylang’s unique chemistry and scent promote soothing feelings when used aromatically. A recent study conducted by multiple Korean universities found that caryophyllene helps support healthy cell growth when ingested orally. To learn more about the chemical components of Ylang Ylang oil or other essential oils, visit the doTERRA Science Blog.

Essential Oils for Abundance
Copy-of-Blog-Post-96.png

Call more abundance into your life with Essential Oils! If you're already working with the Law of Attraction, you are going to love what I have to share with you today! Get your diffusers and roller bottles ready, because you don't want to miss out on these high vibe oils and what they have to offer you!

When it comes to bringing more abundance into your life, affirmations, meditations, hypnosis, and focused manifestation can only be enhanced with the use of essential oils. Below you will find a list of the oils that can support you in drawing in more abundance. I encourage you to smell all of them, and create a blend using the oils that smell most pleasant to you. Use at least 3 drops each of 3 of the oils. The number 3 in itself is a magical number and powerful for manifestation.

Essential Oils for Abundance

  • Frankincense: Helps to become spiritually open, shields the body from negativity, and encourages connectivity.

  • Wild Orange: Helps to let go of the scarcity mindset, inspires solutions to issues, and promotes the true meaning of abundance.

  • Myrrh: Helps to feel safe and secure, nurturing to the soul, and establishes healthy attachments with others.

  • Patchouli: Helps to feel at peace in the present, let go of body tension, and promotes feelings of confidence.

  • Clove: Helps to release old patterns, let go of the victim mentality, and helps to promote clear boundaries.

  • Ginger: Helps to become present in the moment, promotes commitment to a goal, and empowers to take responsibility.

  • Cinnamon: Helps to let go of the fear of rejections, release shame, and promotes body acceptance.

My choice blend here would be combining 3 drops of Wild Orange, 3 drops of Frankincense, and 3 drops of Ginger, added to a 5 mL roller bottle with a Cinnabar crystal (to promote abundance) and a Quartz crystal point (to amplify the Cinnabar and the oils) and fill to the top with fractionated coconut oil. Apply to the back of the neck, wrists, bottoms of the feet (root chakra), and either the solar-plexus chakra center (just above the navel) or the sacral chakra center (just below the navel), in the morning and in the evening. Use this blend while you are practicing affirmations, meditating and calling abundance into your life, or while you are working. You can also create a diffuser blend with these oils to help inspire you throughout the day.
