A few days ago I wrote about Creating Healthy Habits in another post. I really wanted to drive home some healthy habits that you can make with Slim & Sassy, and the line of Slim & Sassy Products. Tips for Success:

Managing weight and healthy body composition is primarily a matter of expending more calories than we consume. It sounds simple, but is something many struggle with. Every year, doTERRA holds a Slim & Sassy Lifestyle Change Contest, and provides people with super helpful tips to change! How did they do it? Change your Attitude

Many believe that weight management is only a factor of proper nutrition and exercise; however, one of the greatest in uencers is the right mental state. A person’s success at managing weight can usually be traced to how they begin. Creating a healthy lifestyle can be challenging; based on your starting point, there can be signi cant obstacles to overcome. In order to provide the best chance possible, individuals need to prepare themselves mentally as well as physically.

The common attitude associated with lifestyle change or weight management is often negative and restrictive. This attitude is not sustainable and makes weight management seem like an elusive goal. A better approach is to focus on the positive aspects of undertaking a lifestyle change. Below are a few suggestions for maintaining a positive attitude toward a healthy lifestyle change:

  • A lot of pessimism arises from false or unreasonable expectations, especially when those expectations involve you. Set smaller goals within larger ones. When you provide yourself with realistic expectations you will be more likely to succeed.
  • Post a blank sheet of paper on the wall or use a journal to count your achievements. Focus on the positive aspects associated with your goals instead of minor failures. When faced with a negative thought, use this record to remind yourself of your achievements.
  • Consider befriending new people—people who are optimistic and have a healthy attitude towards life. Sometimes a poor attitude is a result of surrounding ourselves with individuals who have negative perspectives.
  • Find a support system—someone who will be honest and supportive as you work toward reaching your goals. Be specific about your needs and your desires so that they understand where they can be of the most help.

Improve your Diet

  • Don’t skip meals. When you skip a meal, your body goes into “survival” mode, slowing your metabolism and storing excess food or glucose as fat. Instead, consider a meal replacement to reduce hunger and provide needed nutrients.
  • Choosing water over sugar-sweetened beverages can aid in maintaining a healthy weight. Substituting water for one 20-ounce sugar-sweetened soda will save you about 240 calories.
  • Focus on nding a balance between hungry and full. Stop eating when you are no longer hungry, not when you are full. To help, try decreasing portion size by using a child-size plate.
  • Don’t make the mistake of trying to change everything overnight. Decrease or replace one unhealthy food item at a time. For example, if you like chips, switch to baked or multigrain.
  • For a simpler approach to making healthy choices, think of your diet in terms of color, variety, and freshness.

Exercise

Exercise does more than just burn calories. It can positively in uence many components of health, including body chemistry and physiology. Proper exercise expends calories during and after activity, promotes better sleep, decreases cravings for unhealthy food, and can even elevate cognitive function.

To achieve a well-rounded tness routine, incorporate aerobic, strength, and exibility training into your exercise each week.

Aerobic Training

Recommended: 5 days a week

Exercise that uses large muscle groups and increases heart rate

Low intensity: walking Moderate intensity: jogging High intensity: sprinting

TIP: Aim for 150 minutes of low to moderate intensity or 75 minutes of high intensity aerobic exercise each week.

Strength Training

Recommended: 2 days a week

Exercise that focuses on speci c muscle groups Gym: free weights, resistance machines, pull-ups

Home: push-ups, abdominal crunches, leg squats, resistance bands

TIP: Strength training will help maintain muscle mass during weight loss; strive to work all major muscle groups for approximately 45 minutes each week.

Flexibility Training

Recommended: 7 days a week

Increase blood ow to muscles and prevent injury Static Stretching: holding a stretch for 20–60 seconds

Dynamic Stretching: repeated, controlled muscle movements (arm circles, walking lunges)

TIP: Try to t in 10–15 minutes of stretching each day.

Here are two simple recipes that will make TONS of body wraps and save money by doing it yourself! Plus, if you are purchasing your oils at wholesale cost, you have even more savings! If you know me at all, you KNOW I love love LOVE diy projects, and this one again, is SUPER simple. I have 2 recipes here, one that you can make a large spray bottle for, and one for a quick one time application. WRAP #1

  • 4oz Glass Spray Bottle
  • Fractionated Coconut Oil
  • 40 drops Slim & Sassy
  • 15 drops Eucalyptus
  • 15 drops Wintergreen
  • 10 drops Peppermint
  • 10 drops Lavender
  • 10 drops Grapefruit
  • 5 drops Cypress

DIRECTIONS

Add the oils to your bottle first, and then fill the rest of the way with the fractionated coconut oil. Shake it up! If you want to, you can take measurements before you wrap your body. Spray the wrap solution onto the desired areas that you wish to wrap. FIRST place a muslin cloth or ace bandage on the area you are wrapping. THEN you can use a plastic wrap to help secure everything.

WRAP #2

  • 1 Tbsp of Fractionated Coconut Oil
  • 5 drops Slim & Sassy
  • 5 drops Grapefruit

DIRECTIONS

Apply to target area and wrap with some sort of cloth. Secure with plastic wrap.

You can leave either of these wraps on for 3-5 hours, or if possible you can leave on overnight. Make sure you are drinking lots of water (with Lemon oil too!) When you are done wrapping, you can take measurements again. Enjoy!

Drinking enough water daily, is so critical and important. Not only will you be nourishing your body by hydrating adequately, but you will likely feel more vibrant and see a difference in your skin!

Greens.

Eating fresh, raw, greens every day gets those extra awesome nutrients in your body. Chlorophyll up that belly and welcome the new found energy into your lifestyle!

Morning Routine.

Establish a morning routine, or daily ritual where you can practice self care. Whether you are drinking a cup of tea, or writing a few things down in a gratitude journal, start your day off in a way that lights you up inside!

Essential Oils.

Soccer Mom Must-Haves

Nothing like 8am Soccer! I always take a handful of dōTERRA products with me, along with some band-aids, because you never know what's going to go down in 6U Soccer! We get up early on Saturday mornings, and head out the door for Daen's AYSO games! This morning it was chilly, and I'm so glad I brought a blanket with us!

I shared a little bit about this today on my social media channels, but I wanted to elaborate deeper on the products I shared! Below, you can see the top 5 products I bring with me to Soccer games, why I think they are so awesome, and how I use them.

TerraShield Deep Blue Rub Frankincense Correct-X Peace TerraShield

Perfect to keep the buggies at bay. It's rained so much where we live, and I don't want my little dude covered in bugs! When it comes to outdoor protection, there is no better defense than Mother Nature’s offerings. Either before we leave to the game, or right when we get there, I have Daen stand with his arms out and legs apart, and spray him all over. Then I have him turn around and I spray the back!

Deep Blue Rub

I bring it with me but it's mostly for after games to make sure my little man's legs aren't cramped. Deep Blue Rub is super easy to apply and is perfect for sore muscles after a good game, and also for stiff joints beforehand! I take about a pea-sized amount on my finger and then massage it into my son's shin and calf muscles. If you'd rather use the Touch Roller, that is also a great option!

Frankincense

My go to Roller for all things, and my emergency oil! When in doubt get the Frankincense out! Not only is Frankincense super versatile, but it's wonderful for little bumps, bruises, scrapes, and owies too. I love taking my Frankincense Touch roller because it is already diluted for me, and I can simply just roll it on the area in question, or put on my finger if it's a scrape.

Correct-X

God forbid someone gets a boo-boo, this salve is a savior! It's got amazing oils in it and goes on like an ointment! I like using the Frankincense Touch on scrapes first, and then I apply a light layer of the Correct-X ointment to keep dirt, and other yucky things from getting in. This is a product I carry with me in my purse, along with bandaids, just in case!

Peace

My son's emo kid blend. Yes, he is 5, and his emotions are as big as mine! I bring this with me in case he gets upset, discouraged or starts acting like a stinker! In fact, I always keep this roller blend in my purse or in my pocket. It is my current favorite oil blend and I love what it does to help calm my mood when I'm feeling anxious. That way, I'm not acting like a little stinker too!

Of course, I had to share a pic of my little guy in his Soccer uniform. There is just something so sweet and adorable about this age! We love watching him run around, kicking the ball, and trying his best.

Sometimes it's super funny to see these little 5 year olds all over the place, or forgetting which goal they are supposed to run to. You can't help but giggle!

I'm so so grateful to have my little arsenal of awesomeness with me! Being able to take care of my little guy, no matter what or where, helps me to feel empowered as a mama. Seriously, no idea how I'd live without dōTERRA!

Grapefruit

Are you a fan of fresh citrusy aromas? If you are like me, you are a BIG fan of citrus in more ways than one. Grapefruit Essential Oil does not dissapoint, and I can't wait to talk about it!

This is another great oil to use if you like to work with your chakra systems and also supports the Solar Plexus Chakra. When this is out of balance, it can lead to feelings of low self esteem, and a feeling of lack. We definitely want to stay balanced! Grapefruit can help us emotionally, to honor our bodies.

Day in my Oily Life

It's 6am... and my Fitbit is vibrating. My alarm is going off and it's telling me I need to get out of bed. If it's a rest day, I stay in bed and snuggle with my hubby for another hour and a half. If it's any other day of the week, I'm up and ready to workout. Will it be Pilates? Yoga? TERRAfit? All depends on my mood, and if I'm participating in a current challenge. Either way, I put some motivate (or Peppermint and Wild Orange) in the diffuser, a drop of peppermint in my hands and on my chest, and I get moving. A couple drops of Lemon oil in my water, and I'm feeling refreshed. Afterward, I spend some time reading, journaling, and thinking about how I want my day to go. I open up my planner and take a look at what's going on. Some days I like a nice soak in the bath, with a floral essential oil (like Lavender, Rose, Clary Sage or Jasmine) and other days I hop in the shower. Breakfast includes my Lifelong Vitality supplements, and TerraZyme. Sometimes Brien makes us Trimshake Protein pancakes for breakfast... and I really like those! Brien and I both clean up the kitchen with our DIY cleaning products, and move on with the day. Since we homeschool Daen, we take a look at what he is interested in that day, and help foster that interest.

I spend anywhere from 2-8 hours working on my business. It depends what day of the week it is, how much I am looking to accomplish, and the plans my family I have. I make sure to block out time for my business everyday. It's so important to cultivate balance in our lives, because when you work from home,  it is easy to let others dictate your time... if you don't set your hours. I also love to have a diffuser going while I am working. Depending on the kind of atmosphere I want to create, it could be a variety of oils I blend together, a specific oil that I am using for emotional support and benefits, or a new blend of oils I'm feeling inspired to try out.

Daen gets oils when he needs them. Sometimes he is in need of some emotional support as well. Growing toddlers have so many emotions that they aren't sure how to use, so we try to help him as best we can. Balance is a favorite for us, it's perfect for the back of his neck and the bottoms of his feet. As I'm sure you know, lots of little moments happen throughout the day, and I love having our oils on hand to support us through them.

At the end of the day, my husband and I start the bedtime routine. Console goes in Daen's diffuser, and I use my Lavender touch roller on the bottoms of his feet, my own, and my husband's. Story time, a song, and then lights out. Lately I have been putting Wild Orange and Breathe in our bedroom diffuser in the evening, but I also love Serenity. Closing my eyes after a full day of life, love, and essential oils, I am grateful.

 

Fitness & Oils for the Busy Mama

Staying active and fit is important for all of us. I would even say that it is critical, especially for busy moms. Fitness is a form of self care, but it shouldn't be the only method of self care for the busy mama. Juggling work, kids, a household, a partner, a personal life, and me-time... all of that can take a toll on our bodies. Using essential oils to support your fitness routine can be wildly helpful, especially if your doc has okayed your fitness routine. I am a big fan of at home workouts. I do love a good gym, don't get me wrong, but sometimes we don't have the means to be a gym rat, and it's ok. At home workouts can give you results, provided that you actually do them ;) It doesn't serve anyone to have a super awesome workout dvd chillin' on the shelf... still in the wrapper. What kind of home workouts am I into? I love pilates, I love yoga, and I love TERRAfit workouts. Switching things up keeps me interested, engaged, and let's be brutally honest... sore too. (This is probably why we NEVER run out of Deep Blue Rub! haha!)

Incorporating Peppermint Oil before my workout is a way for me to open up the airways and feel fresh! I like working out in the morning, usually before my hubby and my son wake up. This gets me feeling pumped and ready to take on my day. It also diminishes the dreaded mommy guilt. You know the thing, where you feel guilty for doing something you want to do, WHEN you want to do it? Yeah, enough of that. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life girlfriend! I also love adding Motivate to my diffuser before my workout. Who doesn't want to smell something fresh and invigorating when they're breaking a sweat?

The chaos of motherhood will always be there, but I can definitely day that creating an income with doTERRA has allowed me to do MORE of the "mommy things" that I have always wanted for my son. I grew up with both of my parents being entrepreneurs, and having them home was "normal" for me. I can't imagine what it must have been like for my friends that didn't grow up with that experience. The ability to stay home and give my son the experiences I cherished as a child has been so rewarding. Even bringing my husband home from his full time job... and giving HIM the opportunity to shine as the father he wants to be... I can't even express how grateful I am for that. I invite you to consider this for yourself, and work closely with me, so that I can support you in your own goals.

Is my life still chaos sometimes? Oh heck yes. I'm a mom! But our definition of normal, looks a bit different. The mommy guilt is gone. When my husband was working and I was trying to find time to work out while he was at work, I felt guilty. I felt all of the "shoulds". I should be cleaning right now. I should be doing laundry right now. I should be taking Daen to the park right now. I should not prioritize my health... all of those feelings vanished as soon as I really hunkered down and opened up the doors to my business.

Now when I workout, it's just that. It's time for me to focus on my heart rate, and beads of sweat rolling down my forehead. It's time for me to literally work out my issues, and feel good about where my day is going. I invite you to make this a priority in your life. Don't get crazy... 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week is plenty! You deserve to live the life you desire, and that includes supporting your health. You deserve to feel amazing... even when you're chasing after your kiddos, and trying to wipe their booty! ;)

Smoothie Time!

Ok, this is IT! This is my HANDS down, ABSOLUTE, FAVORITE, Smoothie recipe ever! It doesn’t take very much time to prepare, it’s super tasty and incredibly filling. This recipe will make enough for 2 large servings or 3 small-medium servings.

INGREDIENTS:

-Peppermint Essential Oil

-Vanilla TrimShake Protein

-1 scoop TerraGreens

-Raw Local Honey

-Coconut Water

-Fresh Mango or Strawberries (I like Mango!)

-Fresh Lime (or 1 drop Lime Essential Oil)

-Himalayan Pink Salt

-Avocado

-Ice

DIRECTIONS:

-Add 2 cups of coconut water to your blender. Add in 1 or 2 scoops of the Vanilla TrimShake, and TerraGreens.

-Take about 1 cup of mango and add that to your blender.

-Shake or grind a bit of the salt into your hand, and pinch off a bit to add to the blender.

-Halve and remove the pit from the avocado. Add both halves to the blender. (No skin of course!)

-Cut the Lime in half and squeeze about 2tbs worth (or more if you like!) in, or add 1 drop of your Lime Essential Oil.

-Squeeze or spoon in about 2tbs of your honey.

-Put the ice in the blender.

-And of course, last but not least, add 1 drop of peppermint essential oil. YES! One drop is plenty. I promise!

-Go ahead and blend until your delicious drink is nice and smooth, with no lumps or ice chunks.

-Pour into pretty glasses and enjoy with a friend or by yourself! YUM!

FITNESS + OILS + CHOCOLATE

Where have I been?! I know, I know, I admit it. I've let you down. Last month I barely shared anything new and I'm SUPER duper sorry for that. I don't have any fancy excuses for you, just reality.

I WILL tell you all the exciting things that happened last month though! I was able to attend this amazing LEADERSHIP event and learn so many more incredible things about essential oils, and the company that I have partnered with. My hubby went with me, so it was super nice. A little 2 day getaway for us and we were able to grow even closer than before. Hard to imagine, but let me tell ya, these oils do amazing things!

This month is going to be CA-RAY-ZY for my little family. The property in the White Mountains of Arizona is about ready for us to move in to, so pretty much any day we are going to be picking up and leaving. Not on a Jet plane, but in our Subaru. (I call it "the Subi")

Lately I have really been drawn to Wild Orange, and loving the fresh uplifting aroma it brings about. I like to diffuse it when I'm working out. Speaking of working out, I am doing PIIT28 this month! Ingredients:

Combine all of these tasty ingredients in your blender, and blend until it's nice and smoooooooth.

*Tasty Tip! If you want to add a garnish, add freshly whipped cream and a dash of pumpkin pie spice!
